Layton Rothshank Knives and more

Layton has been interested in blacksmithing, knifemaking, and leatherworking since he was 10 years old. He set up a shop beside Justin's pottery studio where he works almost daily on new projects. 

In the spring of 2023 Layton traveled with the rest of the Rothshank family to Penland School of Craft. While at Penland he was able to visit many local knife makers, and spend some time working directly with Will Manning of Heartwood Forge. During this time Layton learned more direct skills about forge welding and cold working steel.

Upon returning to Goshen, Layton has improved his studio with his own belt sander, which now accompanies his drill press, wood lathe, and assorted bench grinders. Layton creates his knives from salvaged steel, vintage files, and other assorted reclaimed saw blades. The wooden handles are made from salvaged wood from his grandfathers wood shop, from the woods beside the Rothshank studio, or from gifted pieces from friends.
